Opera in West Hollywood

August 6, 2014

The Russian composer Gamma Skupinsky, born in Chernivtsi in Ukraine, studied composition with composer Albert Lehman at the composition department of the P.I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow.

In 1979 he moved to the United States and continued studying composition at the New England Conservatory (Boston) and the Boston University. Later he moved to Hollywood where, in 2008, he completed the opera Margarita, a work based on The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov.

For several years this opera would not be performed on stage, except for some fragmentary concert versions.

Today we received a triumphant message of the composer with the title: «It will finally happen! Halloween in August!». With the support of the city of West Hollywood, the opera will have its premiere on Saturday, August 23, 2014. We can't give you much more information than the date and place though, since the message was very scant on information about, for example, who will perform the opera.

Anyway, if you are in the vicinity of West Hollywood, and you want to see and opera based on The Master and Margarita, this is your chance. Moreover, the entrance is free.
