First performance of Alexander Gradsky's opera
September 19, 2009
The first concert performance of the opera Master i Margarita, realised by composer, singer and poet Alexander Gradsky is scheduled for September 23, 2009 at the Alexander Gradsky Theater. Gradsky invited everyone who has contributed to the opera to be there. There will be expected famous artists such as Oleg Tabakov, Alexey Petrenko, Valery Zolotukhin, Larisa Golubkina, Leonid Yarmolnik, Gennady Khazanov, Vladimir Matorin and Lyubov Kazarnovskaya.
It took six years to complete the CD which will be available soon. Alexander Gradsky financed it all by himself, without sponsorship. All vocalists - and there were more than fifty - worked for free, and so did the Alexandrov Ensemble from Moscow and the Children's Choir Mandragora from Klin.
The opera will probably never be completely staged. "I have not the money," Gradsky says, "and when I think of all those I would like to see in such a project, it seems to me a utopia."
The opera, which lasts three hours, covers four disks. 500 copies would already be finished. The set will look like a book.
