A statue at last

Telekanal Rossia - 29.08.2006 - 08.56

The controversial sculpture group in honour of The Master and Margarita which should have been installed at the Patriarch's Ponds, is not (yet) installed, but Koroviev and Behemoth have had a place in the garden of a house in улица Советской Армии [ulitsa Sovyetskoy Army] or Soviet Army Street in Марьиа Роща [Marina Roshcha], a neighbourhood in the northern part of the centre of Moscow. At least for a while, since when I wanted to visit it in 2014, the neigbhours told me it was gone.

The small polymere sculpture group representing Koroviev and Behemoth attracted a great deal of attention from many Bulgakov fans who loved to be photographed with their heroes.

The Дирекция по эксплуатации зданий [Direktsiya po ekspluatatsy zdany] or District Housing Management Council decided to decorate the hitherto absolutely impersonal courtyard of the building at the Soviet Army Street nr. 13. Among the students of the three art institutions on the territory of the district, a contest was announced for the best artistic decoration of the yard.

The winner was Lyubov Mirosenko, a student of the Art Department of the Pedagogical College No. 16 - now renamed as Institute of secondary professional education, the Pedagogical College K.D. Ushinsky «Marina Roshcha» - with this tribute to Koroviev and Behemoth. Mirosenko received a prize in the form of a laptop, and the opportunity to leave her artistic mark in the courtyard.

She was also given the opportnity to lead a team of graphic artists which made some murals on themes of The Master and Margarita on the walls of the thermal substation next to the building, and which turned the garbage container into a tramway «Annushka».

On the street side of the building you can still view a mural with a bench on which you can sit next to Bulgakov. Although that might not last long either, because the paint starts to peel off, and culture barbarians like to plaster the wall with graffiti.

On our Facebook page you can view an album with photos of other places where you can see The Master and Margarita appear in the street. Not only in Moscow, but also in Kharkiv (Ukraine), Antwerp (Belgium), Göteborg (Sweden) and Adelaide (Australia). You can browse the album with the following link
