The three story lines of the novel are very well represented, with an intelligent use of colour and black-and-white images. The casting of the actors was almost perfect and they play their characters so faithfully that even the most convinced scepticists remained silent, despite the immense popularity of the series. On December 29, 2005 more than 80 million Russians watched the programme.
