The first restaurant in Moscow I ever went to, does no longer exists. It had the very appropriate name of Старая башня (Staraya bashiya) or the Old Tower because it was situated in an old tower in front of the Bolshoi Theatre. Everytime when I'm around I go back looking there with a glimmer of hope, but there is, since some years already, a sign saying that  the restaurant is «temporarily closed because of technical reasons».

But never mind. There are other good restaurants in town, and there are more and more. Here's some other adresses where it is nice to be:

Café Pushkin
Tverskoy Bulvar 26 A
Metro Tverskaya
My daughter said she never ate better in her life

1st Monechikovsky pereulok, 5
Metro Dobryninskaya
Russian food with an incredible array of homemade liqueurs

Pyatnitskaya 1
Metro Novokuznetskaya
Belgian chocolate for dessert

Sretenka 15
Metro Sukharevskaya
Quiet winter garden

Chistoprudny Bulvar 12a
Metro Chistye prudy
Chique but tasty

Chistoprudny Bulvar 12a
Metro Chistye prudy
The exterior terrace of Nostalgie on the water

Старая башня (Old Tower)
Teatralnaya 5/1
Metro Teatralnaya

Café Margarita
Malaya Bronnaya ul. 28
Metro Mayakovskaya
For obvious reasons

The above mentioned restaurants have, besides typical Russian specialties, also a wide choice of international, mainly Frenchy dishes. The quality may vary. But they are certainly nicer than the huge amount of cafetarias, snackbars and points of sale of big food chains calling themselves «restaurant».
