People from the west may find it strange that on the Russian news channels there is still much attention paid to a book which was written seventy years ago and published forty years ago in a magazine. I don't see this happen with, say, Ernest Hemingway or Harold Pinter. When they are mentioned in a news item, you may count on it that there's an anniversary to celebrate. Or on an exceptional adaptation of their work in a movie or a theatre play.
But The Master and Margarita is even in our days frequently on the Russian news channels. Any occasion is used to show how important the novel still is to the Russians, and not just in Moscow.
