Герман ван Гестел
After studying Aerospace Engineering the Dutchman Herman van Gestel started with photography as an autodidact. His talent was soon noticed: after eighteen months he was accepted at the Art Academy St. Joost in the city of Breda. Later he studied at the Acade-my of Fine Arts in The Hague.
After being trained as a make-up artist and stylist Herman was able to define his own vision and definition of fashion, beauty and he became a fashion photographer, with ac-tivities in Amsterdam, London and New York. He works for famous brands like L'Oréal, Vichy and AvantGarde.
As a social documentary photographers he shows his commitment to people and society. He creates the opportunity to visualise people in a penetrating way with relation to their environment. Rather than creating beautiful images, he examines and discoveres them.
In 2007 he made a series of fashion photos with Russian models in a Russian setting, and he inspired himself on Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita.
