Who am I?
My name is Jan Vanhellemont. I live at Horengang No. 5 in 3000 Leuven, Belgium. I launched this website in its current form as a non-profit project on November 6, 2006. The website is intended as a tribute to the Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov and his renowned novel The Master and Margarita, and at the same time as a source of information about this novel, its characters, the places described in it, and the political, social, economic, and cultural context in which it was written between 1928 and 1940.
What information is collected?
Via contact forms
As the webmaster of this website, I collect a limited amount of personal data from visitors in certain cases by means of the contact forms that can be used in a few places. Visitors may use these forms to provide comments on the content of the website, to notify me of omissions or typos in published texts, to request additional information, to share news such as, for example, the publication of a new translation of The Master and Margarita, or to provide suggestions for new topics that might be interesting to include.
The following information is requested in these contact forms:
• The name and email address of the person making contact;
• The subject and content of the message.
Other personal data, such as the telephone number or physical address of the contact person, are not requested.
The collected personal data is used exclusively to correspond personally with the person concerned. They are not provided to third parties unless the person concerned personally and explicitly requests it. When the person concerned wishes to cease correspondence, his or her data is immediately removed from my list of contacts.
Via references to third parties
Personal data is collected by some external websites that visitors may access via links they can click on when they wish to purchase films based on the works of Mikhail Bulgakov, or books that are part of Mikhail Bulgakov's oeuvre, books dealing with the author and his work, or books about the political, social, economic, and cultural context in which the author lived and worked.
The external websites to which I refer are responsible for collecting the data necessary for the order, payment, potential production, packaging, and shipment of the products. For example, they use your name and address with the express purpose of correctly delivering the products you purchased or the services you requested by providing your address details to the postal and distribution companies that must deliver them at your home address.

How do I protect your information?
Both this website and the aforementioned websites apply all possible security measures to protect the safety of personal data when an order is placed.
Secure servers are used by both Combell, the Belgian company hosting this website, and the aforementioned websites. When the transmission of personal or financial information is necessary, it is sent via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and subsequently encrypted in the data files of the processing companies, where it is accessible only to those authorized with special access rights to the system and who are required to keep the information confidential.
Do I provide information to third parties?
I do not sell, trade, or provide personal data to third parties, with the exception of trusted third parties who help to use this website or to be of service to you, provided that these parties agree to keep this information confidential. I may also disclose your information to comply with the law, to enforce website policies, or to protect my own or others' property or safety rights. A typical example of such a situation is when a customer of one of the aforementioned websites asks me to intervene in the event of a lost or damaged delivery.
