In this korridornaya - a kind of communal apartment - Mikhail Bulgakov has been living from 1921 to 1924 with his second wife Lyubov Evgenyeva Belozerskaya. By the atmosphere of quarrels, scandals and drunkenness which prevailed, Bulgakov readily used it as a source of inspiration for the Master and Margarita.

Some elements of the novel come directly from this apartment. The video shows a photo of Anna Goryatcheva. She lived with her son in a room of the korridornaya and from this room Bulgakov could always hear them shouting and bragging. So, Anna became the prototype for Annushka, the woman who spilled the sunflower oil which caused the death of Berlioz in the novel and who made a lot of noise during her interrogation by the secret police.
