Biography

Victor Vasilevich Prokofiev (1934-2006) was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. In 1962 he finished the Samokish Art School in Simferopol in the Crimea, and in 1968 he graduated from the Всероссийский государственный инсти-тут кинематографии (ВГ-ИК), or the All-Russian State Institute of Cinema-tography (VGIK) in Moscow.

From 1970 to 1977 he worked as art director at Mosfilm, and from 1971 on he had many exhibitions in the Soviet Union and abroad. In 1991, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Bulgakov, he made a series of 11 illustrations of The Master and Margarita, for which he got a gold medal from the Выставки достижений народного хозяйства (ВДНХ) or The All-Russian Exhibitions centre of achievements of national economy (VDNKh).
