Michael Lockshin's film in the United States

Not only was the making of director Mikhail Lockshin's film The Master and Margarita a major undertaking, but the producers also had to shed a great deal of blood, sweat, and tears to get the film screened in cinema theatres. It is now finally scheduled to have its premiere in the United States on 18 September 2026.


Russian Federation

In the Russian Federation, the film was approved to be premiered in theatres on 25 January 2024, although this was very much against the Kremlin's wishes. It became a major public success despite the fact that the hate-mongers of the prime-time talk shows had pulled out all the stops with their well-known foul language and tirades. Director Lockshin bore the brunt of the criticism because he disapproved of the war in Ukraine and had published messages on his social medias about the atrocities committed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine.


United States

In the United States, the film was initially banned, not because of its content, but because producers Svetlana Migunova-Dali and Grace Loh, who themselves intend to make an English-language film adaptation of the novel, had succeeded in having the screening of Lockshin's film banned. A lawsuit ensued, which is now being heard on appeal by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals – an appeals court that handles cases from California and eight other western states.

However, Luminosity Pictures no longer wishes to await the verdict and launched a trailer on YouTube the day before yesterday announcing that the film will premiere on 18 September 2026, which you can watch on this website by clicking on this link.
