Ice and Fire

The TV program Лёд и пламень (Lyod i plamen) or Ice and Fire of the Russian television station Channel 1 is a combination of two well-known TV formats from the BBC: Strictly Come Dancing, and Dancing on Ice. The latter is known in the United States as Skating with Celebrities.

The program ran from September 19 to December 26, 2010. Eighteen well-known figure skaters formed couples with well-known dancers, singers or actors in a league which alternately was held on a dance floor and an ice rink.

One of the couples consisted of actress Ekaterina Vilkova (°Gorky, 1984) and figure skater Maksim Shabalin (°Samara, 1982). The latter was, with his regular partner Oksana Domnina, World champion figure skating in 2009, and European champion in 2008 and 2010.

In the broadcast of October 24, 2010, Vilkova and Shabalin ended up third with a dance interpretation of the theme of The Master and Margarita. It was a choreography on The Waltz, an excerpt from the soundtrack composed by Igor Kornelyuk for Vladimir Bortko’s TV series Мастер и Маргарита.
