Биография

The Russian composer Gamma Skupinsky was born in Chernivtsi, a city in the historic region of Bukovina in Ukraine. He studied composition with composer Albert Lehman at the composition department of the P.I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow.

In the 70s, Skupinsky was the musical leader of two popular Bucovina rock bands, Червона Рута (Chervona Ruta) or Magic Flower and Смеричка (Smerichka) or Evergreen.

In 1979 he moved to the United States and continued studying composition at the New England Conservatory in Boston and the Boston University. He also spent two years at the Boston Massachusetts Institute of Technology, doing research in computer related applications in music.

After graduating from the Boston University, Skupinsky moved to Hollywood and opened the post-production facility Gamma Soundworks. He wrote symphonies, operas and chamber music.

In 2008, Gamma Skupinsky completed the opera Margarita, based on The Master and Margarita. The libretto is written by Richard Gales. The opera uses the format of comic book art.  Skupinsky hoped to stage it in 2011, but it didn't happen.

Three years later, we received a message from the composer that the opera would be performed on August 23, 2014 at the Plummer Park Fiesta Hall in West Hollywood, California, United States.
